“Obediah Waters lived at Puts Creek, Vermont. His wife was a Spanish lady who wore costly jewels. Her name was Submitty. Obediah was a blacksmith by trade. He was five feet eleven inches tall and had blue eyes and fair hair. One of his daughters was named Submitty. She married Simeon Waite. She had three daughters and one son. The son’s name was Simeon Waite also. One of the daughters, Electra, married Toussaint Verd whose father was a native of France and lived in Montreal. Toussaint and wife had two sons and three daughters. One of these daughters was named Submitta. She married John McNellis. Issue from this union was three sons and three daughters: namely John Burt, Urban Earl, Eben Clinton, Mary, Martha and Jessie. Eben had three sons and one daughter. Mary married Royal Tice. Parents born in England.
Value of personal estate in 1870 is listed as $200.
In 1880, had 3 boarders living with the family: Hannah & Albert Needlham and Joseph Pilant, all of whom list their occupation as “works in jewelry shop”.
Have linked John to his parents (Abraham & Sarah) because of the following reasons:
- John’s mother Sarah is living with the family in Rhode Island in 1870.
- This family is the only one found to have a son John, a mother Sarah (with suitable birthdates) and the profession of jewellers.
- The family lists a son John in the 1851 and 1861 census’s, but no later (John immegrated to the USA in 1862). | Ward, John (I1671)

POSSIBLY 'SARAH COOK' - born 1 Sep, 1793, Ravenstone, father William Cook, mother Martha?
BIOGRAPHY: Came to Launceston 1841 on the 'Ullswater' with their 8 children (mentioned in Launceston Advertiser (5/8/1841) and Cornwall Chronicle (7/8/1841)). Last name was noted as 'Cock' in some places, 'Cook' in others. From http://www.thecorys.com/sayer/d11052.htm - Elizabeth Medwin must have been a resourceful woman: once when bushrangers Bradley and Connor called, planning revenge on William for having replaced Bradley services with the more reliable ones of a ticket-of-leave man, Elizabeth calmly tied up 60 pounds in her skirts, keeping 2 pounds visible. Since William was not at home, the bushrangers took food and the two pounds and went away, leaving the bulk of the family savings safe in Elizabeth's skirts. | Cook, Elizabeth Sarah (I1031)
