- Known as the “stolen” or “runnaway” bride in family history. According to oral history, “Sarah’s several brothers served in the “Black Watch” regiment (about 1840)”. “Sarah was lodged with Neil’s Highland kin until the marriage bans could be published”. Neil was a highlander from Aberdeen and Sarah was a Lowland girl from Sutherland County (they spoke different Scottish accents).
